How To Overcome Your Christmas Gift Panic

That time of the year arrived! Christmas decorations are starting to appear everywhere, on streets, in shops and in your houses as well I suppose…ahh such a lovely and happy feeling! Right? But, let’s be honest, together with all this joy and happiness sooner or later that feeling will arrive that “OMG I HAVE TO THINK ABOUT THE PRESENTS!!” feeling hits everyone! Well, no panic, don’t worry, you’re still on time! I know we all have that one friend who starts thinking about Christmas presents in August (actually yes, I’m one of those people… ๐Ÿ˜€ ) but you’ll be ready as well!

So, to help you with this issue I made a short list of suggestions & ideas which I hope will be useful to overcome your Christmas Gift Panic ๐Ÿ™‚

1 | MAKE A LIST

Writing down all the names of people who want of make a gift to will help you to have a clear idea of how many people you’ll have to think about. Also, dividing them in “categories” can be useful, there might be a group of people (eg. your colleagues) who you want to make the same present so you can just make a separate list and write on top the gift you want to make them and the number of people ๐Ÿ˜‰

2 | SHOULD I BUY SOMETHING OR SHOULD I MAKE IT MYSELF?

Well, this depends on which kind of person ย you are there… are you more a buyer or a maker? I already discussed about the topic in the post “How to Improve Your Art of Making Gifts” , in the post I also gave some tips about the type of present ย you could do, so if you’re still struggling with the kind of gift you could find useful to have a look at it ๐Ÿ˜‰

Also, you might as well handmade the present for some people and buy it for others. Indeed, you can totally think about a time-saving strategy that would fit your gift idea and the budget you have ๐Ÿ˜‰ [And if you think that hand-making your presents would be expensive read this post , you’ll change your mind! ]

3 | GO SIMPLE

It’s Christmas, not a birthday or a special occasion specific for a person… I think the reasons why we do presents for Christmas is different than other occasions… when I think about Christmas presents I think about ” I want to make something to wish them the best for now and the rest of the year and let them know I care about them” okay, it might sounds like an ambitious aim but it’s actually not. Indeed, this desire can be achieved even just by giving them a cute card or a simple but meaningful object, and believe me, the message you want to be perceived by your friends, will be understoodย immediately! ๐Ÿ˜‰

For example, The Happy Thoughts Jar I made for some of my friends last year was very simple and not difficult at all! Yet, all of them liked it very much ๐Ÿ™‚ The same can be said of the letter present I made, which you can see how it worked here ๐Ÿ™‚

Or if you like cooking for example, you could even bake something and package it in a nice way maybe attaching a card to it… as you can see, opting for simple things could be the key ๐Ÿ˜‰

I hope these tips helped you to keep calm and see that making Christmas presents can actually turn out to be a fun thing to do, especially when thinking about the possible reaction of the people who you’re making the present to! ๐Ÿ™‚

What about you? Do you have any other tricks you use when making/thinking about Christmas presents? I’d love to hear about them so do not hesitate to comment in the section below! ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. I’m going to mix handmade with store bought purchases :). I include on my list a set budget for each person, to make sure I’m not overspending. Mason jars are a timeless addition to any gift which I plan to do this year ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. That’s a great idea! Thank you for reading and sharing your ideas! ๐Ÿ™‚

Last year, I wasn't with my usual community of friends, so I'm looking forward to getting some things for folks this year! I go to a spiritual retreat, so I will probably get some things there.

    Sending many blessings your way….
    Love,
    Debbie

This is such good timing, for me December the 1st is the start of the Christmas shopping panic! My friends and I sometimes do Secret Santa to minimise the stress of buying lots of gifts for lots of people. Sometimes to make it even easier, we do it to a theme as well (funniest gift, max spend of ยฃ5, weirdest gift etc), definitely takes some of the panic out of the buying, and gives us an excuse to all meet up before Christmas ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Oh I’m also doing secret santa with my housemates! You’re right, so much less stress! Especially when you don’t know that well the person buying a “funny thing” is easier than a serious present I think! ๐Ÿ˜€
