Review: Afternoon Tea at Sketch

AfternoonTeaatSketch

Afternoon tea is a must when coming to the UK but enjoying an afternoon tea in a very cool and very instagrammable place is a must when coming to London! And Sketch is just the perfect place! Already by taking a sneak peek on their social media (like their Twitter or Instagram) you kind of perceive it’s a very special place. But, as soon as you step into the place you’ll have the proof that for the next couple of hours you’ll feel like Alice in Wonderland.

Let’s start from the location itself. Sketch is based in Mayfair, 3 min walk from Oxford Circus Station so right in the heart of London. You’ll be booked in one of the different rooms Sketch has based on what you’re going there for. Afternoon tea is served in the Gallery which is very pink and lovely and….very very pink!

While if you’d like to go for brunch or breakfast you’ll be sitting in the Glade. So yes, you definitely have to book a spot in advance through their website.

Another room you can’t miss seeing is the bathroom (I know it could sound weird but..)! Literally the coolest bathroom ever! the room is totally white and toilets are in this egg-shaped small rooms.

Could not avoid taking a mirror selfie in the coolest bathroom ever!

Plus, as the cherry on top, the ceiling is a game of bright colours and give to the room that 80’s feeling.

Talking about the main part: teas! They do have a large variety of teas and if you’re not sure on what to choose the waiters are very polite and helpful!

Moving to the food topic… Be prepared to exit from the place with a sugary mouth, your stomach full of goodies and a happy soul! You can choose between the basic afternoon tea menu or other special ones such as the champagne afternoon tea. We opted for 2 classic one but mine (of course) was gluten & lactose-free and here’s what we’ve got:

As entreè a plait with caviar and quail egg plus, on mine there was a salty mousse while on my sister’s there was an aubergine savoury pie.

Then, the main characters arrived, sandwiches, pastries, scones, a small cheesecake for my sister and a lemon mousse for me. We really would have never thought we could be that full when, after we finally managed to eat everything, we discovered that on the menu there was a piece of cake included as well!

As you can notice from the pictures all the decorations and table wares are very accurately chosen and even the most detailed things match the environment!

Now, the hard part…price. The classic afternoon tea is £58 per person. Okay well, it’s definitely not the cheapest afternoon tea but honestly, it’s worth the whole experience. Also, for what you pay you really taste delicious food and at massive portions!

It might not be your go-to afternoon tea but if you’re planning to celebrate a special occasion sketch is just the perfect place!

Have you ever went for an afternoon tea in London? How did you find it? I’d love to hear from you!
